Even if we’ve seen Peter Parker’s (*sigh* Hudson Thames) origin story 50-million times, there’s a reason that Spider-Man is arguably the most popular comic-book character of all time, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is another example of why we keep coming back. The hand-drawn hybrid animation is stunning, the action is incredible, and the slick inclusion of the MCU multiverse makes the show an absolute blast. But what really sells it is its heart, and not just from Pete, but from its multitude of characters. I love returning to Spider-Man’s awkward charm, and I love it even more when it permeates the entire show.

I’ve seen a lot of trash-talk surrounding Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s animation style, and for the life of me, I have no idea what those people are talking about because, visually, this series is a retro comic fan’s dream. It’s damn near art in motion, reminding Old Q of the floppies Young Q used to read by flashlight after bedtime. As for the series, overall? It's still just another Spider-Man (Hudson Thames) origin story despite some fresh twists on both comic and MCU lore. Frankly, I don’t need it. As a quick-hitting distraction, it gets the job decently done, but I’m not clamoring for Season Two.
