We Were Liars has a distinctly young adult fiction vibe to it, and if you’re in the mood for family feuds, petty jealousies, and hammy performances, you’re in the right place. Based on E. Lockhart’s YA novel, the show follows an insufferably rich and privileged American family, cosplaying old-money wealth, who strive to maintain their eminent reputation despite dark family secrets. The drama is sporadically engaging but suffers from the immature characters and their limited world views, and the cringeworthy dialogue is sometimes hard to sit through. Nonetheless, it's easy watching, and the twists did catch me off guard.
