Them: Covenant can't decide what it wants to be. Is it standard horror about supernatural forces or a sinister fever dream about racism? In struggling to make that decision, the too-sprawling narrative becomes exceedingly scattershot, crumbling under the weight of everything it threw at the wall. That said, the acting is solid, the atmosphere is unsettling, and there are some truly disturbing scenes (one in particular is aggressively dark). It just fails to tie everything together effectively. Admittedly, I might be a little burnt out on the “racial horror” genre too, given how frequently that drum has been beaten recently.
