Between Renée Zellweger’s cartoonish performance as a murderous “Karen” (not to mention the distracting prosthetics) and a mishmash tone that seesaws between overly quirky and pseudo-serious, I wouldn’t call The Thing About Pam prestige television despite starring a two-time Oscar winner; However, it is oddly addicting in a guilty pleasure sort of way. It’s like Fargo (the series) mixed with the trashy tone of Tiger King. Given how ridiculous the true story is, the over-the-top flourishes weirdly work, but it takes an episode to fully buy what the series is selling. But once you do, it’s a wild ride.
