Peacock nostalgia-dips to 1989 and delivers a new streaming show based on a cult classic film in The ‘Burbs, where murder and mystery infect a small, safe community. If this sounds familiar, maybe you have seen Grosse Pointe Garden Society, or Based on a True Story, or any other media this decade where mild-mannered civilians get thrust into a whodunit investigation. I was interested to see Keke Palmer as the lead after Nope, but her vibes were off for this project, and the characters, while kooky and heartwarming, didn’t buttress against lazy writing. Feel free to U-turn out of this cul-de-sac of lemons.
