I should have known better, but I figured I’d give Terminator Zero a shot, hoping that familiarity with the brand would carry me through my usual aversions to anime. Alas, no success. While I appreciate a fresh take on the Terminator mythos, Zero falls victim to the same cliché aspects that contribute to my dislike of the genre. The animation is fine but visually unappealing, lacking vibrancy as it relies on muted and matte colors, and the extremely generic looking characters are mostly annoying as the story unfolds very slowly. Ugly, slow, and annoying isn’t a great mix. That’s it…I’m officially done with anime.
