Somewhere in Talamasca: The Secret Order lurks a decent spy thriller that takes place in Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe. I mean, using a mind-reader to do espionage-y things in the world of vampires and witches simply is a cool idea. However, the series is so committed to keeping the main character in the dark (some variation of “the more you know, the more danger you’re in” is repeated ad nauseum), that it frustratingly keeps the viewer in the dark too. A magnetic William Fichtner improves the back half of the season after a very clunky start, but, overall, Talamasca is a muddled attempt at brand expansion.
