The thing about Shining Vale, an alleged horror comedy, is that it’s not particularly funny or scary. At best, it’s mildly amusing with a hint of subtle spookiness. It seems to think having Courteney Cox curse a lot is all you need to get laughs (which, to be fair, works more than it should). That said, the story, which is clearly influenced by The Shining (I’m sure the series title is no coincidence), is just intriguing enough to keep you watching. And with only 30-minute episodes, it works as a quick and pleasant distraction when you have a bit of time to kill.
