Being from Massachusetts, I was extremely intrigued to see the Monster series tackle the Lizzie Borden story, but I’m here to report that this show is a bloody mess. From its messy subplots involving other female serial killers that don’t even pertain to Lizzie Borden (Ella Beatty) to its fabrications of pretty much the entire story, this series is a monstrous disaster. It all feels like filler, stretching the story completely thin and making things feel hollow. This season does have some solid performances scattered throughout, specifically Sarah Paulson and Rebecca Hall; but overall, it’s bland and relies too heavily on shock value.
