After a successful start to Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe with Interview with the Vampire, I had relatively optimistic hopes for AMC’s interconnected gothic horror franchise. Sadly, despite an always alluring Alexandra Daddario, Mayfair Witches just isn’t very…well…bewitching (I’m so sorry). It moves along at a snail’s pace, never fully developing the villain, the lore, the mythology, or characters outside of Rowan (Daddario). I suppose this could be by design, in effect having the viewer make discoveries alongside Rowan as she learns about her heritage, but it just fails to cast a spell (again, sorry). Even the washed-out color palette robs it of any magic.
