I’m sure there is a fanbase for a series like Lucky Hank, but I’m certainly not part of it because I’m either not old enough or miserable enough to relate to it. Despite the performances being very good, I just don’t know what kind of television viewer wants to spend an hour a week with a collection of characters who hate themselves and their lives. It’s depressing and exhausting. Meanwhile, the dry humor and sardonic wisecracks don’t add enough absurdity or levity to pull the viewer out of the mid-life crisis funk that permeates the entire show.
