Much like how my enjoyment of Tulsa King is tied to simply basking in Sylvester Stallone’s unbridled charisma, my enjoyment of Landman is tied to basking in Billy Bob Thornton’s roughneck swagger. It’s not nearly as silly as King, but it has many of the same issues that plague most of Taylor Sheridan’s shows. There are way too many characters, resulting in momentum-halting subplots, and while admittedly better here than in some of his other offerings, Sheridan seemingly still thinks all women are some combination of sexy, dumb, crazy, and victim. Still, Billy Bob keeps me coming back because he’s that damn watchable. Sam Elliott helps too.
