The Knuckles series continues the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise’s utter commitment to children’s entertainment. Every actor and voice-actor, especially Idris Elba (Knuckles), takes their ridiculous roles seriously. Elba plays fish-out-of-water perfectly for the stone-faced echidna, and it’s his commitment that allows adults like me (aka a man-child) to find some enjoyment in the self-aware banter littered amongst the juvenile plot line. It’s at times too silly, so I can’t say this one is for adults and kids alike, but I appreciate that it doesn’t dumb down anything just to cater to its audience. For better and worse, Knuckles is a kids show that fully embraces its adolescent tone.
