With Half Man, Richard Gadd's sophomore outing as a series creator further proves that he's a storyteller with something powerful to say. This time around, he crafts a character-driven drama focusing on two brothers’ relationship, their trauma, and the toxic masculinity within it. The show is anchored by its intense and complex dialogue which allows the performances from Jamie Bell and Gadd to stand out. However, the pace at which this show moves hurts the overall story it’s trying to tell. By the end, its brooding approach just ends up making the story feel more bleak than impactful.
