Considering that Echo 3 boasts being “from the Academy Award winning writer of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty,” it’s no surprise that the propulsive and tense military action sequences are the only thing this series has going for it. Sadly, the story connecting those (too few) set pieces is a mess, often going in random directions that reach dead ends. Plus, it never makes you care about the kidnapping victim because she is essentially just an objective. The pieces are here for something, but series creator Mark Boal has made a show with the depth and intrigue of off-brand Call of Duty instead.
