My intrigue for DTF St. Louis was stoked because of the stars, but I ended up staying for the weirdness and surprising heart. I didn’t know what to glean from the trailers, but where we ended up was somewhat shocking. To be able to craft a compelling mystery, odd but emotionally resonant characters, and do so in the most average setting imaginable was a triumph. If something considered “diet-Coen Brothers” might interest you, where depravity almost always simmers below the surface of mundanity and small towns aren’t exempt from tragedy, give this limited run a shot; looks good from this side of the street.
