Death and Other Details is blatant algorithm-driven content. The formula? Glass Onion x The White Lotus + Only Murders in the Building with a dash of Succession. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this results in uninspired drivel. The dual murder mysteries are uninteresting, lacking a hook to keep viewers engaged during the copious amount of setup. Doubly bad is that the characters, even Mandy Patinkin’s Rufus Cotesworth (complete with a terrible accent – an effort to mimic Benoit Blanc, no doubt), are ultimately shallow vessels used to drive the overly convoluted yet ambiguous plot. For a whodunnit to miss on both mystery and characters, the case should simply remain unsolved.
