I've always been more partial to Freddy Krueger than Jason Voorhees, so maybe that’s why I'm kinda blah about Crystal Lake. That said, if you're the opposite, this prequel offers plenty of Friday the 13th-style gore and slasher thrills. However, despite Linda Cardellini giving her all to center the story, it’s stretched thin with side characters, subplots, and a forced conspiracy that doesn’t add much to the franchise's lore — in fact, it ruins it a bit. If you’re only interested in bloody kills, you’ll find enough to have a good time; otherwise, Crystal Lake does more harm than good to the Voorhees mythos.
