ARCHER: INTO THE COLD
Starring: H. Jon Benjamin, Judy Greer, Chris Parnell, Aisha Tyler, Amber Nash, Adam Reed, Lucky Yates, Natalie Dew, and Christian Slater
Creator: Adam Reed
In October, I called Archer’s final season “a fitting exit” that failed to explore the series ending with deep introspection. Unbeknownst to me at the time, showrunner Adam Reed had a trick up his sleeve with Into the Cold, a grand finale movie (or is it just three episodes?). This may sound repetitive, but this action-packed final mission with the gang is even more of a fitting ending. It does everything the final season did to bring these characters full circle while also providing the genuine closure, growth, and retrospection one would expect in an ending. It’s the proper send-off that was missing from Season 14.
Into the Cold is an even more satisfying ending to Archer than the season finale. It’s fast-paced, hilarious, and full of both action and heart. We get to see each character of the main ensemble, as well as some other familiar faces, at their best in this final, crazy mission, with an ending that made perfect sense and provided closure whilst allowing them all to live on in their own ways. Overall, this is a fitting celebration of one of TV's best comedies, and I’m hopeful that we haven't seen the last of the gang. Long live Sterling Archer!
