Zootopia 2 is excellent. Unlike recent animated sequels that try too hard to stay relevant, that approach enhances the strengths of its predecessor here. It builds interesting lore into an already fascinating world. It continues the (actually) relevant themes of differing cultures overcoming prejudice to make the world better without straying from social and political commentary. It furthers the naturally entertaining dynamic of its characters, and adds an even more stacked ensemble behind Jason Bateman’s Wilde and Ginnifer Goodwin’s Hopps (Ke Huy Quan, as always, is a voice-over standout). Plus, it helps that its pop culturally referential comedy is hilarious, maintaining this franchise’s top-tier Disney status.
