Practical Magic 2 is a predictably disappointing and unnecessary sequel that’s lucky enough to have star talent literally at its disposal. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are always compelling screen presences, and although their performances are enjoyable, even they struggle to work with what little the script gives them. It’s mechanical, full of contrivances and humour that never quite lands, and the overstuffed plot borders on being boring at times. Plus, there is the audaciously drawn-out ending that proves the runtime does not justify itself. It also does that annoying thing of portraying England and its residents as impossibly quaint and charming.
