ROBERT
The non-Apple TV works of Brett Goldstein haven’t generated the same fanfare, but I’m ecstatic knowing that he crafts his own projects and keeps cashing checks. Office Romance intrigued me simply because Goldstein was getting to be a rom-com lead opposite Jennifer Lopez. This is a movie that works off the backs of their relationship and the colorful side characters who fill in this environment substantially (shout out to Betty Gilpin and Tony Hale specifically). The conceit of the drama and J-Lo’s struggles are comedically unrealistic, but dang if the man known for playing Roy Kent (Goldstein) isn’t charming as hell.

AMARÚ
Brett Goldstein needs to be in more movies. There is one scene in Office Romance which revolves around a singular word that might be the hardest I’ve laughed in a minute, all because of Goldstein’s delivery. His new-to-film charm brings a freshness that balances the predictable tropes given to Jennifer Lopez and the film as a whole. But also, every time those predictable things happen, an “oh shit” moment pops up and surprisingly gives this romantic-comedy the cute magic we all hope these films can capture. Tropes be damned. Plus, shout out to Betty Gilpin and Jodie Whittaker.
