Documentaries serve one of two purposes: getting people interested in a subject they know nothing about, or deepening knowledge of something they like but have never researched. Martin Short has never been someone whose work I sought out directly until Only Murders in the Building, but someone who never disappointed. The depth of his character, his love for family and comedy, and how he has touched people was something I didn’t understand until Marty, Life is Short. It was warm, loving, devastating, and greatly interspersed with interviews and archival footage to color in a man of esteem not just in entertainment, but in life.
