ADRIANO
At under 90 minutes, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain takes audiences on a gorgeous coming-of-age journey with beautiful animation and wondrous emotions. Following baby Amélie’s (Loïse Charpentier) point-of-view, we get to see both a child’s growing love for life and her discovery of heartbreak, as she sees things through a continuous new lens. The writing offers her a creative viewpoint to reveal life's challenges, both domestically (being a Belgian girl living in post-war Japan) and mythically. I won't deny it: this incredible movie made me cry, and I need everyone to see it.

AMARÚ
Two of life’s mysteries I have always had an interest in: babies and God. And the hilariously random movie that initially joined those two mysteries together? Baby Geniuses. While I’ll never watch that film again, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain re-invigorated that pondering about how much babies experience the meaning of it all before they lose their earliest memories. It’s beautiful, both visually and narratively, speaking life to our own power through Amelie’s (Loïse Charpentier) curiosity. Her rediscovery of the inner-deity we each have when we see it in ourselves and in others manifests into one of this year’s most life-affirming films.
