Jingle Bell Heist did not fill me with festive cheer. I understand the points it makes about the failing NHS, and I suppose it's necessary for the emotional backstory, but it feels oddly thrown in. A lot of the exposition is unnatural and clunky, and the writing is generally bland. I could have forgiven this and the underwhelming heist and notable plot holes if the central relationship was compelling, but Olivia Holt and Connor Swindells have no chemistry. Their performances are fine, but they’re not a convincing couple, and the better characters are underused. It looks very nice, but it's underwhelming, overall.

ROBERT
I find Netflix’s plan to dominate Christmas-based programming as a weird niche to monopolize, especially since their attempts to elevate beyond the Hallmark Channel are lacking. Jingle Bell Heist is no exception. With Heart Eyes, I guess Olivia Holt’s career is going to be mixed genre rom-coms, but unlike that film, this isn’t very funny or intriguing around the planned crime. There are a few twists that are mostly telegraphed (one not so much), but by that point, any rational person has jumped off the ride completely. If your rom-com isn’t very comedic or romantic, it fails the assignment.
