Throughout the beginning of In Your Dreams, I was too cynical about it. It came off as just another Pixar ripoff that wasn't as inventive as it thought it was, and the animation wasn't appealing, either. But eventually, I was moved by just how mature it is, especially for a film geared towards families, and I can honestly see kids taking something away from this. On top of that, the sibling bond at the centre is emotionally endearing. Now, I wasn't in tears or anything like that, but I appreciated In Your Dreams more than I thought I would.

Given the subject matter and the general themes of In Your Dreams, I couldn’t help but think of DreamWorks’ Rise of the Guardians. That film had a better voice cast, better animation, and a more interesting concept for a kid’s film, but this one had an insight into family decisions and how it impacts not only everyone’s reality, but also their internal processing of it. While the concept of the world and the action was lacking, it didn’t talk down to its audience and took some risks, which is to be commended. As such, it is the laser fart show of animated films.
