Everyone has probably had a bad neighbor or two in their life, but imagine if they were cultists and, even worse, year-long Christmas people! Christmas at the Kringles provides another romp into the holiday horror experience that ended up being delightful because the balance was more heavily skewed toward the comedy than the horror. I wasn’t as invested in the core familial drama with Mark (Ron Livingston) and Julie (Rachel Bilson) to propel the story toward finding solace with the Kringles, but I was ecstatic when there was conflict, as that bred the most hilarity. Also, Rob Riggle was born to play irascible Santa Claus.

I will say there’s never a dull moment in Christmas at the Kringles, but that’s mainly because this movie is all over the place. Director Kevin Lewis pretty much throws everything at the screen in this horror comedy to see what will stick. The story is borderline incoherent and the editing is a hot mess. Don’t get me wrong, there is some fun to be had here. While it’s completely dumb, it’s at least somewhat entertaining. But in the end, Christmas at the Kringles ends up being a lump of coal that won’t go down as a Christmas horror classic.
